Dr. Todd, It’s November (ie, Cold & Flu Season) and I feel like crud. What can I do to get over this?

Yes. As it is #COLDandFLU Season, I get the above question quite a lot lately.

One of the main things that we should be doing other than getting our spine adjusted, getting proper rest, eating clean and drinking our Kombucha is to be taking the appropriate supplements and herbs to support our immune system during this time of the year.

So I recently had the honor and privilege of getting together with a whole food nutrition and herb guru from right here in central IL. I interviewed her about 2 supplements (1 an herb, 1 a whole food complex) which support or modulate the immune system. The truth is that you’d be asking for trouble by not taking these 2 supplements this time of year where we are definitely experiencing winter weather in Illinois.

Dr. Todd, I’d like to get Cold Laser Therapy, but I don’t live close to you. What should I do?

Well, I get this question a lot from both my YouTube viewers and my Facebook followers.

So I’d like to introduce to you, the AFFORDABLE COLD LASER CLINIC, which is located at AUSTIN FAMILY CHIROPRACTIC in Virden, IL.

All cold laser therapy devices are not created equal. Some are very over-priced, yet routinely under-perform. 🙁
Likewise, all cold laser therapists are not trained equally either. Just because a healthcare practitioner owns a cold laser doesn’t necessarily mean that he or she is either adept and / or confident in it’s use for a wide range of health conditions. There are also a fair degree of healthcare shysters out there who are getting into #ColdLasers in an effort to make a quick buck while ripping people off. This, ladies & gents, is where my services come in super handy.

Currently, I am training other healthcare providers in GA, IA, IL, PA, TX and Ontario, Canada to be confident, masterful Cold Laser Therapists through my Cold Laser Consulting business. If you live close to one of them, then I’d love to refer you to one of their clinics!

If you personally go to or know of a chiropractor, acupuncturist or massage therapist (who doesn’t live near one of my trained cold laser therapists) that you think could benefit from adding low-level laser therapy (aka LLLT) to his or her practice’s offerings, please feel free to put them in contact with me. I’d love to help get them up to speed on this wonderful, non-invasive, 21st Century healing technology.

I’ve helped thousands of Central Illinois patients with Cold Laser Therapy over the past decade. #ColdLaserTherapy is truly both my CALLING and my PASSION!

#ColdLaserConsulting testimonial

Cold Laser Consulting testimonial from a happy client in Texas.

Here, one of my satisfied Cold Laser Therapy clients, Dr. Bryan Reid from the St. Louis Metro East area interviews me about my work as a Cold Laser Consultant:

I currently am aware of one totally overpriced LLLT chiropractor in Springfield IL (practically my back yard), as well as super-unaffordable cold laser D.C.s in both Tupelo MS & Dallas TX (Google search “The B.S. of Dr. S.” for more details about the latter) who are trying their darndest to extract from $6,000 to $7,500 per patient from desperate chronic pain and arthritis sufferers using cold laser therapy and offering long, drawn out treatment plans consisting of from 20 to 40 treatments. OUCH!
Many of these docs use “wimpy” lasers which only penetrate from 1 to 2 cm deep. [We have eight unique cold laser devices at AFC, four of which penetrate 5 cm deep!] For example, the self-proclaimed “cold laser knee pain expert” in Springfield IL has two cold lasers (both are the same device) which only penetrate 1 cm deep. And he utilizes ‘improper’ cold laser technique. 🙁 See my video on “Proper Cold Laser Therapy Technique” here:

Of course, if you live in an area that only has an unaffordable cold laser Doctor of Chiropractic, but no affordable cold laser therapists to choose from, WE CAN HELP:
A) by training one of your local doctors through our cold laser consulting business OR
B) you could fly in to Springfield, IL (we are just 30 minutes away) and visit me at my clinic Austin Family Chiropractic for approximately 6 to 8 visits over a 2 week period (total money spent in my office for my services of ~ $500). Then I can train you in “at home” cold laser therapy use and send you home with two cold lasers of your own for continued at home use. These 2 lasers (one of which penetrates 5 cm or 2 inches deep) will set you back only another $1,400.

Here is the scoop on the for “at home” use model that I currently retail to both other doctors as well as to my patients who travel long distances to get care in my office. It’s called the SideKick LASER.

So you’ll get better quicker in my clinic, save quite a bit of money (vs visiting the ultra-expensive cold laser doctors) and have your own “at home” lasers to use on yourself as well as your family and friends anytime, once you return home!

George's osteoarthritis in both hands cured with just 4 weeks of cold laser therapy treatments.

The above patient came to our office for just 13 visits. He spent less than $550 in our office. He has since been released from my care. He uses his “at home” cold laser daily and his quality of life has returned to 100%!

Dear Dr. Todd, My M.D. (G.P.) said I need to be taking a Statin Drug to Lower my Cholesterol. Should I?

That’s a question submitted by Kathy via e-mail. And I can definitely answer the question myself once I have a little bit more info in the way of specifics (ie, Total Cholesterol, LDL, HDL, etc.)

But since I am aware of the big push by Big Government, Big Medicine & Big Pharma to change the guidelines regarding cholesterol for the worse on 1-1-14, I decided to call on my friend and clinical nutrition mentor Dr. Bryan Reid to give us an up to date scoop on this crisis that is about to get even more out of control.

Dr Todd Show & Dr Reid on cholesterol

Dr Todd Austin & Dr Bryan Reid on statin drugs and cholesterol

Dr. Reid is a heavy hitter when it comes to helping patients solve the problems that they encounter with their blood lipid profiles. This dude is a veritable wealth of information on the topic. So let’s get Dr. Reid’s take on STATINS vs CHOLESTEROL, shall we?

So there you have it, ladies and gents. You may want to reconsider before you just blindly take the advice of a General Practitioner M.D. regarding the “standard narrative” that Big Pharma has been trying to spoon feed us for decades regarding CHOLESTEROL being the enemy and STATIN DRUGS (like Crestor & Lipitor) being knights in shining armor.

Hey, Dr. Todd … my feet hurt really bad! Can you help PLANTAR FASCIITIS?

Dr Todd Austin & Jackie Rakers on PF

Dr Todd Austin is interviewed by Jackie Rakers on Plantar Fasciitis foot pain.

A lady at a local store recently asked me the following question.

“Hey, Dr. Todd … my feet hurt really bad! My M.D. told me that what I have is called PLANTAR FASCIITIS? I’d never heard of such a condition before. Can you help this at Austin Family Chiropractic?”

Let me start out by saying that I have a looooooooooooooooooooooooooooong history of:
a) suffering from (before I was a Doctor),
b) researching (as a senior Chiropractic student) and now
c) successfully treating (as a Chiropractic Physician & Cold Laser Therapist) “P.F.” or PLANTAR FASCIITIS.

It baffles my mind that although I had over 150 YouTube educational videos online, 65 of which I did in 2013, that I had none on this condition known as P.F., which had been so near and dear to both my feet and my heart for decades. So I got together with my friend and patient Jackie Rakers to remedy the situation. Thank you kindly, Jackie. You did an awesome job with the interview!!!

So here you have it, ladies & gents…. my much awaited video on my story as a former P.F. sufferer and the scoop on the latest advances in alternative PLANTAR FASCIITIS treatment, all of which we utilize to help PF sufferers on a regular basis at AFC in Virden.

Enjoy.

The Doctor Todd Show – Dr Bryan Reid on “Diabetes” cover screen

Dear AskDrTodd readers and “The Dr. Todd Show” viewers,

I was honored recently to have the priveledge of interviewing Dr. Bryan Reid, D.C.
Dr. Reid is truly one of my Clinical Nutrition mentors. He knows his nutrition, his physiology, his lab testing, etc. The analytical guy I am, I like to pick his brain (via either Facebook private message or text) every chance I get. With that being said, Dr. Bryan recently came to Virden, IL to film a few segments as my special guest on “The Dr. Todd Show” for AskDrTodd.com. We filmed the DIABETES show at Austin Family Chiropractic and we did two other episodes at the brand new, official ‘Doctor Todd Show Studio’ which is located in Northern Macoupin County as well.

In this, the DIABETES episode, Dr. Reid discusses blood sugar handling, the different types of DIABETES and a condition known as SLUGGISH LIVER.

I hope this info proves to be helpful for you and your loved ones.

Please comment below. As always, all of your feedback is appreciated.

Acknowledging my Wonderful Wife, GlutenFreeGena.

GlutenFreeGena at P.F.Chang's

Dr. Todd & Eugena Austin from GlutenFreeGena.com at P.F.Chang’s.

Dear AskDrTodd.com followers and “The Dr. Todd Show” viewers,

I’d like to take a moment to give some major props to the love of my life, Mrs. Eugena B. Austin. I met Eugena 20 years ago. We got engaged 19 1/2 years ago and have been married for over 17 years. Together we’ve had 3 beautiful daughters (ages 6 through 11 as I type this).

Gena is an awesome Licensed Massage Therapist as well as my Chiropractic Assistant / Office Manager at AFC.

Eugena has struggled with weight problems off and on since before we met. Then in August 2013, she had her “I’ve had it” moment. That’s when her alter ego GLUTEN FREE GENA was born. Then last month, at the insistence of some of her facebook friends and my facebook friends as well as a plethora of our Austin Family Chiropractic facebook fans, she became a GF blogger too!!!

As of today, my amazing wife has lost a grand total of 33.5 lbs in less than 4 months. She is ‘CRUSHING IT’ as my social media mentor Gary V. would say. She is truly an inspiration to many others through her facebook sharing and blogging. I’m blessed for the opportunity to share in the experience with her. We celebrated our first ever Gluten Free Thanksgiving holiday together just a few weeks ago. And it was awesome!

I love you with all of my heart, Eugena B. Austin! And I’m incredibly proud of you for now being at your lowest weight in over 12 years! 🙂 You rock, Gena!

If you haven’t already done so, please head over to Gena’s new GlutenFreeGena.com blog and / or it’s associated Gluten Free Gena Facebook page to become a fan, follow her exploits or just to say “Hello”.

Thanks in advance,

Dr. Todd Austin

Dear Dr. Todd, I tend to be an EMOTIONAL EATER. What advice can you offer me?

Dr Todd Austin

Janet C. on the Dr Todd Show with Todd Austin DC

[The title of this post is a question that I received via email (at draustin@royell.net) from Eileen.]

Hi Eileen,

That’s a great question! I’m aware of folks who eat because they are bored, sad, upset, happy, etc. Of course WE only NEED to EAT when we are actually HUNGRY.

To shed more light on the topic of EMOTIONAL EATING, I took my traveling video blog called “THE DOCTOR TODD SHOW” on location to VIVACIOUS WELLNESS in Springfield, IL. Janet C. knows a thing or two about EMOTIONAL EATING. So let’s hear what she has to say, shall we?

Thank you for the awesome question, Eileen! And thank you for the incredible information, Janet!!!

Dr. Todd, do I REALLY need to be taking FISH OILS?

Ask Dr Todd (Austin) Show & host Janet Cook

Ask Dr Todd Show – host Janet Cook interviews Todd Austin about omega 3 fish oils

I get that question daily at Austin Family Chiropractic in Virden, IL.

And I recommend high quality fish oil supplements as follows:
For maintenance and / or heart health: 2 grams daily
For neuromusculoskeletal inflammation anywhere in your body: from 6 to 9 grams daily
For brain health: 4 to 5 grams daily

I’ve taken upwards of 15 grams of high quality Omega 3 fish oils in a day before myself. I had no adverse effects to report whatsoever.
But if you are a FISHY BURP kind of guy or gal, then you must watch the below video to find out how to proceed.

Here, Holistic Health Coach Janet Cook from Vivacious Wellness in Springfield, IL ASKs DR. TODD about “The Wonders of Omega 3 Fish Oils”.

So grab your popcorn, or maybe a salmon steak instead.

Hey Dr. Todd, what do you know about JUICING and HEALTHY SMOOTHIES?

Healthy Smoothies

His & her SMOOTHIES enjoyed by Dr. Todd & Gluten Free Gena

[The above question was from Michelle via private facebook message.]

Dr Todd Austin interviewing Dr Davis

Dr Todd Austin interviewing Dr Georgia Davis for an episode of The Dr Todd Show

Hi Michelle,

As you may know, I’m a big fan of using my NutriBullet to make healthy whole food (45% veggies, 45% fruits, 10% nuts or seeds) smoothies called “Nutriblasts”.

Technically JUICING is different than what I’m accustomed to through my nearly 2 decades of using a Vitamix, then a Magic Bullet and now my NutriBullet. So to answer your question, Michelle, I decided to take the traveling DR. TODD SHOW on location to the office of my friend and Holistic Medical Doctor / Neuro-Psychiatrist Georgia Davis, M.D. In this video, Dr. Davis will give you the scoop on JUICING. Dr. Davis practices in Springfield, IL. Enjoy!

P.S. If you’d like to be able to make a smoothie that tastes as good as (or usually even better than) a DQ Blizzard, then here is a bonus video for you. And as you can see here, children love them! And they are GLUTEN FREE. In fact, my better half GlutenFreeGena enjoys them quite often. Enjoy!!!
