Dr. Todd & Eugena Austin from Virden in Central, IL hosted their quarterly Fall 2015 Midwest Far Infrared Thermotherapy Training Event on Saturday August 29th at their home. They are the owners of Austin Family Chiropractic in Virden, which is located in northern Macoupin County (20 minutes north of Carlinville and 25 minutes south of Springfield).

Dr. Todd graduated from Logan Chiropractic College in 1993 and relocated to Virden with his wife Eugena, a Licensed Massage Therapist, in 1996. They opened AFC in October that year. In 2004, Dr. Austin was introduced to Cold Laser Therapy which totally fascinated him. In July of 2005 the clinic purchased their first three cold laser therapy devices. Since that time, Dr. Todd has added several other cold lasers to his toolkit, has spent 5 seasons on the sideline as the Official Team Cold Laser Therapist of a semi-pro football team (working closely with an orthopedic surgeon during 3 of those seasons) and performed over 21,000 cold laser therapy treatments on central Illinoisans.

One of Dr. Todd’s Cold Laser Therapy mentors introduced him to Far Infrared (FIR) Thermotherapy in May of 2013 shortly after he was informed that he had suffered an inguinal hernia. This diagnosis was NOT good news at the time. The surgeon said “You won’t be able to adjust your chiropractic patients for at least 14 days. Thus you’ll need to take 2 whole weeks off from work.” Austin’s mentor said that the recovery time could likely be cut in half using FIR technology. His lasers helped to calm down the pain temporarily but the surgery was inevitable. So Todd purchased his very own FIR device in July 2013, just 10 days before his surgery. It was as good as advertised, as he was back adjusting chiropractic patients on Day #8 after surgery!!!

Austin slowly and hesitantly introduced the technology into his Chiropractic Cold Laser Therapy practice after that, not really sure at first how recovering from an inguinal hernia surgical repair in nearly half the time translated into helping out the chronic knee pain, shoulder pain, foot pain and back pain sufferers who he typically found himself treating on a daily basis in his clinic. Then in May 2014 he had a very tough peripheral neuropathy case. The patient was from Springfield and came to see Dr. Todd twice per week for about a month. This was such a tough case that both chiropractic adjustments and cold laser therapy were completely ineffective at providing any pain relief whatsoever, which is highly unusual. After a single 20 minute Far Infrared treatment, the patient noticed a difference as she stated “For the very first time in 14 years it feels like my leg is waking up, coming back to life, attempting to heal up”. After 3 visits she asked if she could purchase one saying “I see you twice per week for a 20 minute treatment. That’s 40 minutes per week. Wouldn’t it make more sense if I had one at home and used it daily?”. Dr. Todd couldn’t dispute her logic. These FIR mats sell for $710. Eugena signed up through the clinic to be a distributor so they could sell one to this nice lady who was experiencing such great benefit. After this, neither Todd nor Eugena were gun shy anymore about introducing FIR technology to others, especially after seeing how it essentially gave that lady her life back.

Then in October 2014, Dr. Todd decided he’d like to go about training other doctors as it pertains to implementing this amazing FIR technology into their practices as well. “We also train non-healthcare providers to use them as well, as many people buy the FIR mats to use daily at home.” stated Austin. Todd & Eugena held their 1st training event at their home last November. It went well and thus became a quarterly event which happens in March, May & August as well. The Austins usually cover the technology during the 4 hour event including how the FIR products are used, what conditions respond best to Far Infrared Thermotherapy, how the technology works, how to share the technology with laypersons, how to share the technology with other Doctors of Chiropractic, etc. They typically have from 1 to 3 guest speakers at these events as well.

There were 4 folks in attendance from the Quad Cities (3 from Iowa), 3 from Indiana, 3 from the St. Louis metro east area and the remainder from central IL. The lone guest speaker for the Fall 2015 FIR Training Event was Mrs. Iva J. Jones from Nokomis, IL who spoke on “How To Successfully Introduce the Technology to Holistic Healthcare Providers”. There was another exciting announcement at the event as Dr. Todd and Eugena were holding a contest for their distributors and customers. The contest went for 5 weeks and ended just 2 days before the Fall Training. They gave away nearly $1,500 worth of Far Infrared Thermotherapy devices. Winners were Iva Jones, Barb Callahan from Carlinville and Dr. Shane McConnell from the Cleveland, OH area.

The Austins are now training 42 other health and wellness care providers throughout the U.S. on FIR technology including 19 other Chiropractic Clinics.

#DrTodd, what’s the difference between BIOMAT THERAPY & COLD LASER THERAPY (LLLT)?

As a veteran Cold Laser Therapy practitioner (for a full decade now), as a Cold Laser Consultant, as a Biomat Consultant & as a Biomat Diamond Executive Distributor I get the above question quite often from other holistic healthcare providers, especially my fellow Doctors of Chiropractic.

Sometimes it shows up like:
“I’m thinking of getting into healing LIGHT therapy. Which would be best for me and my practice, Dr. Todd …. Cold Lasers or Far Infrared?”
OR
“Which is better, #DrTodd, Far Infrared or Cold Lasers?”
OR
“Hey Dr. Todd, my new equipment budget only allows for me to spend $X,000 this year. Would you recommend I get into LLLT or FIR Thermotherapy first?”

You probably get the picture.

The God’s honest truth is that I LOVE both of these amazing state-of-the-art healing #LIGHT therapy modalities. And there is no way that I could imagine my life or my practice without either of them in it!

So my friend Cindy A. Brown of Florida recently was kind enough to interview me about this topic: #BIOMATvsLLLT. It was an honor to have Cindy, a blogger at EverydayUnderwear.com, freelance writer, Toastmasters International member and just all around awesome person as a guest host on “The Biomat Show”. Since there was a lot of info to cover, the interview went 19 minutes. So it’s been broken into 3 parts for you, my viewers.

Here is Part 1 of “A Comparison of LLLT and Far Infrared Thermal Therapy” which is a PUBLIC Episode of #TBS:

Here is the PUBLIC TRAILER for Part 2 which is actually an UNLISTED Episode. Actually, due to increased scrutiny by the government, the Part 2 interview I did with Cindy Brown is now no longer available in the PUBLIC DOMAIN, but only as a PRIVATE video for our PREFERRED CUSTOMERS & CLIENTS.

And lastly, here is Part 3 where we discuss Flintstone Therapies vs. Jetson Therapies, the additional benefits of Far Infrared over LLLT and much more.

Sorry, folks. Same deal here as with Part 2. Due to increased scrutiny by our federal government, the Part 3 of 3 interview with Cindy Brown is also no longer available in the PUBLIC DOMAIN, but only as a PRIVATE video for our PREFERRED CUSTOMERS & CLIENTS.

Until next time, #HappyColdLasering & #HappyFarInfraredding if you are lucky enough to have access to either of both of these space age technologies.

Of course as always, please feel free to contact me with any questions.

“Why don’t you ADVERTISE Cold Laser Therapy, like SPRINGFIELD KNEE PAIN does?”

This is a question I’ve been getting a lot from both my current and new patients lately, mainly in response to a competitors new website about Springfield Knee Pain at http://SpringfieldKneePain.com .

The conversation goes like this: “”Hey Dr. Todd, there’s some other new chiropractor in Springfield who is advertising cold laser therapy like crazy all of a sudden. How come I never see or hear you advertising that? I mean since I know it’s your niche and all. I thought you might want to keep up with the competition.”

Great question, BTW. There are 2 main reasons that I don’t advertise LLLT (low level laser therapy or cold laser therapy).

The primary one is because I JUST DON’T NEED TO! I’m not a fan at all when it comes to conventional advertising. The return on investment of newspaper, radio & TV is typically pathetic. The Doctor in question is spending about $800 a pop every time he runs a half page ad in the Springfield, IL STATE JOURNAL-REGISTER newspaper. That’s freaking nuts!!! And he spends at least as much bombarding the radio airwaves as well. I run a LOW STRESS, LOW OVERHEAD practice. It would take a veritable ton of $30 treatments to pay that character’s advertising bill. Ouch!!! So no wonder if you go to his site
SpringfieldKneePain.com, you’ll see that if you’re lucky enough to respond to his offer QUICK ENOUGH then you’ll get his $425 cold laser evaluation for only $60.

Geez, and here little old me charges only $35 cash pay price for what is probably a much more thorough evaluation. And to borrow a phrase from Walmart, “That’s our everyday low price” at Austin Family Chiropractic.

This fella in Springfield just bought his first pain relief cold laser in July 2013 after he came back into practice. Personally, I own 8 cold laser devices, and I’ve been using them for 8+ years, so I guarantee I could run rings around this cold laser therapy pain relief newbie with my army of laser devices. Trust me when I say this guy jumps from gimmick to gimmick. Just 6 months ago, he was the “LipoLaser Weight Loss Guy”, until his advertising practices landed him in hot water. BTW, he just came back into practice after losing his license back in 3/2013 for breaking advertising laws for which he had to pay a $5,000 fine. He’s now on indefinite probation until at least 6-30-2014 in case you were wondering. YIKES!!! And he’s not new. He’s got 16 black marks on his license, 9 of which occurred in the past 2 1/2 years, with others dating back to 1992. I don’t normally bash my fellow brothers and sisters in chiropractic, but this situation has BAD NEWS written all over it. Don’t believe me? Then please go to IL License Lookup and enter the following:

Profession: CHIROPRACTOR
Last name: PRICE
First Initial: K
Then click on the word SEARCH.

Then YOU BE THE JUDGE.

But I digress. I don’t need to ADVERTISE because I get a fairly steady stream of referrals for COLD LASER THERAPY from patients, Medical Doctors and other Chiropractors as well. I also get plenty of new Cold Laser Therapy patients from my gig as Official Team D.C. and Official Team Cold Laser Therapist of the 2012 MidStates Football League Eastern Conference Champion Springfield Foxes and my online presence as “central IL’s ‘Go To Guy’ for LLLT treatment and advice” as the creator & host of ColdLaser.TV, my online cold laser informational video blog. I’ve been educating the public via my ToddAustinDC YouTube Channel since 2009.

MY PERSONAL MISSION STATEMENT is to either get every American citizen to an affordable and competent Cold Laser Therapy practitioner or to have them purchase their own LLLT device(s) to add to their 21st Century Medicine Cabinet for ‘at home’ use. See below video:

And secondly, I don’t advertise because advertising Cold Laser Therapy is just asking for trouble. This Springfield Doc is advertising his cold lasers specifically for “knee pain” and “peripheral neuropathy”. While it’s true that cold lasers can many times help those conditions (it happens daily in my office), in the U.S. we can only legally advertise a cold laser device for what it is FDA cleared (approved) for. For example, if a certain cold laser device is only FDA cleared for treating carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS), it can only be advertised in the newspaper / on the TV / on the radio for treating, you guessed it, CARPAL TUNNEL SYNDROME. So it might well be said that this guy is foolishly putting himself out there as a sitting duck. In other words, he’s just asking to get his license yanked again.

Any bets how long it’ll be before Black Mark #17 goes on his record? SMH

So I hope I succeeded in answering your question about “Why I don’t ADVERTISE Cold Laser Therapy”. But here are a couple of my KNEE PAIN testimonial videos from my satisfied patients:

For the record the “Dr. Todd Austin Knee Pain Protocol” involves a combination of: chiropractic lower extremity work, cold laser therapy and nutritional supplements for improving weight-bearing joint health.
