Here at Austin Family Chiropractic in Virden, IL (Northern Macoupin County) we (my wife Eugena aka Gluten Free Gena and I) have been offering the #ChiroThin Doctor Assisted Weight Loss Program for approximately 6 months now and we’ve seen some downright amazing results!
Our last 2 patients who just completed the program lost 23.5 & 22.5 lbs in just 6 weeks! And we had 3 new patients start the program on Monday. These are exciting times!
I recently took “The Dr. Todd Show” at AskDrTodd.com on location to Sullivan Chiro in Chatham (20 minutes north of Virden) where Dr. Gene & Sara also run a successful ChiroThin practice. I picked their brains and they shared some amazing info with me and my vlog viewers!
If you’d rather not have to click over to YouTube, I’ve embedded the full playlist for you right here. Any new videos added after this blog post’s creation will appear here as well, not just the recent Sullivan Chiro interviews:

At Austin Family Chiropractic, one of our rules is that we don’t try anything out on you that one of us hasn’t tried out first on each ourselves or a family member. With that being said, my wife Eugena B. Austin, L.M.T / Chiropractic Assistant has gone through the ChiroThin program herself twice. On each occasion she has lost 26 pounds! You go, Gena!!!

At Austin Family Chiropractic in Virden, IL (Northern Macoupin County) we’ve been utilizing Cold LASER Therapy since July of 2005. Yes, in fact Dr. Todd was the first to bring Cold LASER Therapy technology, Low Level LASER Therapy or LLLT to the Springfield, IL area.

Dr. Todd Cold LASERing a painful foot neuroma
Are you looking for a noninvasive method to ease throbbing aches or painful strains? In my practice as a Chiropractic Physician, I’ve found that the strong healing rays of Cold LASER Therapy, a medical treatment which uses a focused light emitted at specific wavelengths, are an effective treatment for both young and old.
Cold LASER therapy is particularly attractive to today’s patients, who suffer from a variety of aches and pains but want to avoid surgery, long-term use of medications and side effects.
Using Cold LASER therapy either as a stand alone therapy or in conjunction with other protocols, I’ve seen amazing results over the past 11 years including but not limited to:
– a reduction in painful rotator cuff syndrome,
– relief from low back pain,
– relief from plantar fasciitis,
– pain relief and much quicker healing of sports strains/sprain injuries,
– relief from painful shoulder and / or hip bursitis,
– non-surgical relief of carpal tunnel syndrome,
– relief from crippling conditions like spinal stenosis, spinal osteoarthritis, degenerative joint disease and degenerative disc disease.
Jen is a good case in point. Jen was plagued with a severe episode of her TMJ (temporomandibular joint or jaw) pain. Just 1 Cold LASER treatment got her feeling much better. In less than 24 hours her jaw pain had subsided, she was able to eat and chew again without any pain and there was much less jaw clicking going on.
George had a severe headache coupled with severe neck pain that had been going on constantly for 3 days. Just 3 Cold laser treatments and he reports he’s 90% improved.
Patti thought she broke her wrist after falling. She was in constant severe pain and couldn’t even use her hand at all. She didn’t have much grip strength at all other. Opening a peanut butter jar or a bottled water was totally out of the question! X-rays were negative though. After 8 Cold LASER treatments it’s now 100% and she’s been released from care.
Clarence recently presented with a lot of low back pain, hip pain and sciatica (radiating pain down both his legs). He also had much difficulty walking without assistance (holding on to the walls or using a cane). He has severe Spinal Stenosis according to his MRI report. After 8 Cold LASER sessions he’s walking much faster (and without any help) and only having occasional episodes of slight pain. He says he’s now at least 85% better.

Ruth had been suffering with Carpal Tunnel Syndrome symptoms for years. After she took a new job it progressively started getting much worse. It woke her up and she couldn’t even get back to sleep the night before she presented to our clinic for the very first time. She had been suffering from constant throbbing hand pain for 14 hours at that point. After 1 treatment the once constant hand pain was gone. After 3 treatments her condition including numbness in her fingers is 75% better.
Bev has suffered from a very unstable and painful knee for a full year. After 4 treatments she reports a lot less pain & much greater stability. She’s even able to do squats for the first time in over 9 months now.
Knee Arthritis? Chances are Cold Laser Therapy can help. Ask Dr Todd.
Whether you have chronic pain or recently suffered an acute injury, Cold LASER Therapy treatment can many times provide great relief. The treatment is painless and short (from 10 to 15 minutes). It also promotes recovery without surgery and / or medication.
I’d like to share my latest stretching exercise video with you. This is a top notch exercise for stretching out the Gluteal muscles of the buttock area. It’s also somewhat helpful if you suffer from a piriformis muscle issue such as a “piriformis spasm”. Your Chiropractor may have even told you that you have a painful condition known as “Piriformis Syndrome” which can send radiating symptoms down one of your lower extremities thus mimicking a lumbar disc herniation. This #GluteStretch could be somewhat helpful for #PiriformisSyndrome too.
We can also perform a variation of this #exercise which is excellent for targeting the calf muscles and stretching the hamstrings to some degree as well.
If you have any questions for me about this exercise, please feel free to either comment here, comment below this video directly on Youtube or email me at email@example.com .
Sometimes it shows up like:
“I’m thinking of getting into healing LIGHT therapy. Which would be best for me and my practice, Dr. Todd …. Cold Lasers or Far Infrared?”
“Which is better, #DrTodd, Far Infrared or Cold Lasers?”
“Hey Dr. Todd, my new equipment budget only allows for me to spend $X,000 this year. Would you recommend I get into LLLT or FIR Thermotherapy first?”
You probably get the picture.
The God’s honest truth is that I LOVE both of these amazing state-of-the-art healing #LIGHT therapy modalities. And there is no way that I could imagine my life or my practice without either of them in it!
So my friend Cindy A. Brown of Florida recently was kind enough to interview me about this topic: #BIOMATvsLLLT. It was an honor to have Cindy, a blogger at EverydayUnderwear.com, freelance writer, Toastmasters International member and just all around awesome person as a guest host on “The Biomat Show”. Since there was a lot of info to cover, the interview went 19 minutes. So it’s been broken into 3 parts for you, my viewers.

Here is Part 1 of “A Comparison of LLLT and Far Infrared Thermal Therapy” which is a PUBLIC Episode of #TBS:

And lastly, here is Part 3 where we discuss Flintstone Therapies vs. Jetson Therapies, the additional benefits of Far Infrared over LLLT and much more.

Sorry, folks. Same deal here as with Part 2. Due to increased scrutiny by our federal government, the Part 3 of 3 interview with Cindy Brown is also no longer available in the PUBLIC DOMAIN, but only as a PRIVATE video for our PREFERRED CUSTOMERS & CLIENTS.

The Doctor Todd Show – Dr Bryan Reid on “Diabetes” cover screen
Dear AskDrTodd readers and “The Dr. Todd Show” viewers,
I was honored recently to have the priveledge of interviewing Dr. Bryan Reid, D.C.
Dr. Reid is truly one of my Clinical Nutrition mentors. He knows his nutrition, his physiology, his lab testing, etc. The analytical guy I am, I like to pick his brain (via either Facebook private message or text) every chance I get. With that being said, Dr. Bryan recently came to Virden, IL to film a few segments as my special guest on “The Dr. Todd Show” for AskDrTodd.com. We filmed the DIABETES show at Austin Family Chiropractic and we did two other episodes at the brand new, official ‘Doctor Todd Show Studio’ which is located in Northern Macoupin County as well.
In this, the DIABETES episode, Dr. Reid discusses blood sugar handling, the different types of DIABETES and a condition known as SLUGGISH LIVER.
I hope this info proves to be helpful for you and your loved ones.
Please comment below. As always, all of your feedback is appreciated.
Ask Dr Todd Show – host Janet Cook interviews Todd Austin about omega 3 fish oils
I get that question daily at Austin Family Chiropractic in Virden, IL.
And I recommend high quality fish oil supplements as follows:
For maintenance and / or heart health: 2 grams daily
For neuromusculoskeletal inflammation anywhere in your body: from 6 to 9 grams daily
For brain health: 4 to 5 grams daily
I’ve taken upwards of 15 grams of high quality Omega 3 fish oils in a day before myself. I had no adverse effects to report whatsoever.
But if you are a FISHY BURP kind of guy or gal, then you must watch the below video to find out how to proceed.
Here, Holistic Health Coach Janet Cook from Vivacious Wellness in Springfield, IL ASKs DR. TODD about “The Wonders of Omega 3 Fish Oils”.
So grab your popcorn, or maybe a salmon steak instead.
This is a question I’ve been getting a lot from both my current and new patients lately, mainly in response to a competitors new website about Springfield Knee Pain at http://SpringfieldKneePain.com .
The conversation goes like this: “”Hey Dr. Todd, there’s some other new chiropractor in Springfield who is advertising cold laser therapy like crazy all of a sudden. How come I never see or hear you advertising that? I mean since I know it’s your niche and all. I thought you might want to keep up with the competition.”
Great question, BTW. There are 2 main reasons that I don’t advertise LLLT (low level laser therapy or cold laser therapy).
The primary one is because I JUST DON’T NEED TO! I’m not a fan at all when it comes to conventional advertising. The return on investment of newspaper, radio & TV is typically pathetic. The Doctor in question is spending about $800 a pop every time he runs a half page ad in the Springfield, IL STATE JOURNAL-REGISTER newspaper. That’s freaking nuts!!! And he spends at least as much bombarding the radio airwaves as well. I run a LOW STRESS, LOW OVERHEAD practice. It would take a veritable ton of $30 treatments to pay that character’s advertising bill. Ouch!!! So no wonder if you go to his site SpringfieldKneePain.com, you’ll see that if you’re lucky enough to respond to his offer QUICK ENOUGH then you’ll get his $425 cold laser evaluation for only $60.
Geez, and here little old me charges only $35 cash pay price for what is probably a much more thorough evaluation. And to borrow a phrase from Walmart, “That’s our everyday low price” at Austin Family Chiropractic.
This fella in Springfield just bought his first pain relief cold laser in July 2013 after he came back into practice. Personally, I own 8 cold laser devices, and I’ve been using them for 8+ years, so I guarantee I could run rings around this cold laser therapy pain relief newbie with my army of laser devices. Trust me when I say this guy jumps from gimmick to gimmick. Just 6 months ago, he was the “LipoLaser Weight Loss Guy”, until his advertising practices landed him in hot water. BTW, he just came back into practice after losing his license back in 3/2013 for breaking advertising laws for which he had to pay a $5,000 fine. He’s now on indefinite probation until at least 6-30-2014 in case you were wondering. YIKES!!! And he’s not new. He’s got 16 black marks on his license, 9 of which occurred in the past 2 1/2 years, with others dating back to 1992. I don’t normally bash my fellow brothers and sisters in chiropractic, but this situation has BAD NEWS written all over it. Don’t believe me? Then please go to IL License Lookup and enter the following:
Last name: PRICE
First Initial: K
Then click on the word SEARCH.
MY PERSONAL MISSION STATEMENT is to either get every American citizen to an affordable and competent Cold Laser Therapy practitioner or to have them purchase their own LLLT device(s) to add to their 21st Century Medicine Cabinet for ‘at home’ use. See below video:
And secondly, I don’t advertise because advertising Cold Laser Therapy is just asking for trouble. This Springfield Doc is advertising his cold lasers specifically for “knee pain” and “peripheral neuropathy”. While it’s true that cold lasers can many times help those conditions (it happens daily in my office), in the U.S. we can only legally advertise a cold laser device for what it is FDA cleared (approved) for. For example, if a certain cold laser device is only FDA cleared for treating carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS), it can only be advertised in the newspaper / on the TV / on the radio for treating, you guessed it, CARPAL TUNNEL SYNDROME. So it might well be said that this guy is foolishly putting himself out there as a sitting duck. In other words, he’s just asking to get his license yanked again.
Any bets how long it’ll be before Black Mark #17 goes on his record? SMH
So I hope I succeeded in answering your question about “Why I don’t ADVERTISE Cold Laser Therapy”. But here are a couple of my KNEE PAIN testimonial videos from my satisfied patients:
For the record the “Dr. Todd Austin Knee Pain Protocol” involves a combination of: chiropractic lower extremity work, cold laser therapy and nutritional supplements for improving weight-bearing joint health.
